![]() PHOTO Robert Sholtz, MS Robert Sholtz earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in mathematics at the State University at Albany, New York in 1960 and 1961, respectively. During the 1960s he studied Biostatistics at the University of California Berkeley during which time he also joined the staff of the Child Health and Development Studies (CHDS) in 1964 and 1965. From 1969 through 1997 he held various research and lecturer positions at the University of California at Berkeley and the Harold Brunn Institute at Mt Zion Hospital in San Francisco. This included co-teaching, with Brenda Eskenazi PhD, a graduate level course "A Practicum in Epidemiologic Methods" which routinely made available for student projects the CHDS public use dataset. He also held consulting positions with a number of health related organizations in the Bay Area. Robert rejoined the staff of the Child Health and Development Studies in 1993. Chronic diseases have been the primary focus of Robert's research interests. Since rejoining the CHDS staff his work has largely centered on the effect of exposures while pregnant to both the mother and the infant, including exposure to environmental chemicals. In addition to his research interests, he has a continuing and important rolesin maintaining the integrity of the CHDS data files, in moving the Study's archival datasets to modern storage media and in assuring the safety of current computer files.
